Ayahuasca Integration Coaching

Make the most of your ayahuasca ceremonies

Journeying with Ayahuasca

Support your ceremony with intention and safety

Stewarded for generations by Indigenous peoples of the Amazonian-Andean region, ayahuasca is a powerful psychedelic brew offering transformative experiences ranging from “not much happened,” to terrifyingly disintegrating, to beautiful and uplifting.

The degree to which these experiences end up being beneficial are influenced by how you prepare for and process them, the support you receive, and your ability to integrate ceremony insights into daily life.

Ayahuasca experiences – even blissful ones – can bring challenges. Common struggles after an ayahuasca ceremony can include:

>  Feeling emotionally overwhelmed
>  Slipping back into old habits
>  Making big life changes too quickly
>  Not having the right kind of social support.

Whether you’re navigating post-ceremony challenges or deepening positive insights, intentional integration of your ceremony experiences is where lasting, positive change takes root. Ayahuasca can potentiate self-awareness and emotional resilience, improve relationships, heighten creativity, and instill a greater sense of purpose. Harnessing this potential is where the support of an ayahuasca integration coach can be helpful.

What is an Ayahuasca Integration Coach?

Guidance and support before and after your ayahuasca ceremonies

Coaching focuses on clarifying goals and taking concrete steps towards positive life changes. An ayahuasca integration coach supports you to prepare for your ceremonies with respect to set (mindset) and setting (ceremony environment), as well as with strategies to navigate alterations in consciousness.

After your ceremonies, they help you to process, understand, and meaningfully integrate ayahuasca’s teachings into your daily life, including with recommended integration practices. An ayahuasca integration coach is knowledgeable about ayahuasca, with a deep personal understanding of what it can offer.

Whether you’re new to ayahuasca or a seasoned ceremony participant, my role as an ayahuasca integration coach is to collaborate with you to:

Enhance your clarity and preparedness before ceremonies
>  Affirm and strengthen your connection to your Inner Healer – your Highest, Wisest Self
>  Develop or refine your skills to navigate your ceremonies
>  Support your innate capacity to process, embody, and weave ceremony insights into your everyday life
>  Set realistic goals for meaningful, lasting change.

Your ceremonies may be joyful, boring, frightening, or all of the above. Every ayahuasca experience offers possibilities for making positive shifts from a place of inner authenticity, and I am here to support you in that process.

Hello, I’m Meris Williams

Skilled support before and after your ayahuasca ceremony

I’m an ayahuasca integration and preparation coach, psychotherapist, and psychedelics researcher. I have a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, and more than 20 years of experience as a therapist. In my clinical career, I worked in both private practice and institutional settings.

I’ve also worked personally with ayahuasca for many years, so I know from experience that having skilled and caring support for ceremony preparation and integration can be immensely helpful, even essential at times.

As I entered this new phase of my life, my eldering decades, I saw a need for services that fill a couple of gaps in ayahuasca-related support – specifically, brief-model preparation and integration, and therapist consultation. Because ayahuasca has been discovered, used, and stewarded for generations by Indigenous peoples, I work to thoughtfully and respectfully bridge ancestral and Western perspectives.

Ayahuasca holds a very deep and special place in my heart, and it brings me joy to support people who are coming home to themselves with the help of this plant medicine. However, ayahuasca isn’t helpful for everyone and the decision to drink it needs to be considered carefully.

Why I Offer Ayahuasca Preparation and Integration Coaching

Sowing the seeds of meaningful, lasting change

Working with an ayahuasca integration coach can be the preferred choice for some people. For example, you may not feel drawn to pursue longer-term psychotherapy (although this could emerge as a goal during coaching), or you may simply favour a brief, targeted approach. You may already have a trusted therapist who lacks specific knowledge of ayahuasca and choose to work with me as a short-term specialist while continuing to see your primary therapist.

It comes down to this: If you choose to drink ayahuasca, my wish is for your ceremonies to be as safe and helpful as possible. Preparing for and integrating ceremony experiences within a trustworthy relationship can help you navigate ayahuasca in a way that maximizes your safety and seeds positive, lasting change. In my own multi-year journey with ayahuasca and other psychedelic medicines, this type of support has been a fundamental part of my healing process.

I believe these services promote an ethical approach to ayahuasca use by helping to reduce risks and increase the benefits. More generally, they support a mature stance on drug policy, education, and safety.

I also hold in my heart a vision for the future in which plant medicines and other psychedelics are carefully safeguarded, respected, and equitably integrated into systems of care, to foster personal wellness but also to expand beyond it, for the wellbeing of all.

How Ayahuasca Integration Coaching Works

Individualized support to empower your ayahuasca experience

I believe each of us has an innate, wired-in drive for healing, self-discovery, and growth that ayahuasca catalyzes when the conditions are right. Preparation and integration work with trustworthy others can be one of those right conditions.

In my therapy practice I used Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), parts of which I weave into my work as an ayahuasca integration coach. In a nutshell, AEDP is about psychological healing, self-discovery, and growth through embodiment and relationship. As a published social science researcher, I also draw on scientific studies in anthropology, psychology, and medicine, as well as knowledge that Indigenous and Indigenous-trained ayahuasca practitioners have shared with me.

With ayahuasca integration and preparation coaching, we’ll get you ready for your ceremonies and then afterwards help you to meaningfully apply the teachings and insights you received into your daily life.

What is Ayahuasca Preparation Coaching?

Supporting you to get ready for your ceremonies

Preparing for ayahuasca can be just as important – or more important – than processing the experience afterward. As a particularly wise collaborator of mine has pointed out, solid preparation can do a lot to optimize and ease post-ceremony integration

Yes, it’s important to follow the dietary, medication, and lifestyle restrictions. But ayahuasca preparation also means making time to reflect on what in your life, body, emotions, relationships, or spirit is calling for healing, discovery, or growth.

Having a few practical tools to take with you into your ceremonies can make a big difference. Collaborative intention-setting and developing or refining skills for navigating ayahuasca’s powerful effects can be especially helpful.

Our research with ayahuasca ceremony leaders suggested a few key preparation practices to promote positive ceremony outcomes, including:

Assessing your readiness
Approaching ayahuasca with honesty and respect
Identifying the personal issues you want to work on
Developing and strengthening in-ceremony navigation skills
Having a genuine desire to heal.

My goals for ayahuasca preparation coaching are to support you in being as grounded and knowledgeable as possible going into your ceremonies to help you maximize your safety and fruitful outcomes.
