Psychedelic Coaching

Make the most of your medicine journey

The Psychedelic Experience

Support your journey with intention and safety

Psychedelics can offer profoundly transformative experiences that catalyze healing, self-discovery, and growth. The degree to which these experiences end up being beneficial are influenced by how you prepare for and process them, the support you receive, and your ability to integrate ceremony insights into daily life.

Intentional preparation helps set the stage for a fruitful journey, while integration work helps positive changes take root. Psychedelic medicines can potentiate self-awareness and emotional resilience, improve relationships, heighten creativity, and instill a greater sense of purpose. Harnessing this potential is where the support of a psychedelic coach can be helpful.

What is a Psychedelic Coach?

Guidance and support before and after your medicine session

Coaching focuses on clarifying goals and taking concrete steps towards positive life changes. A psychedelic coach helps you prepare for your medicine journey with respect to set (personal mindset) and setting (journey environment), as well as with strategies to navigate alterations in consciousness.

After your journey, they support you to process, understand, and meaningfully integrate your journey experiences into your daily life, including with recommended integration practices. A psychedelic coach is knowledgeable about psychedelic medicines, with a deep personal understanding of what they can offer.

Whether you’re new to psychedelic medicine work or a seasoned journeyer, my role as a psychedelic coach is to collaborate with you to:

  • Enhance your clarity and preparedness before your journey

  • Affirm and strengthen your connection to your Inner Healer – your Highest, Wisest Self

  • Develop or refine your skills for navigating psychedelic experiences

  • Support your innate capacity to process, embody, and weave your journey insights into your everyday life

  • Set realistic goals for achieving meaningful, lasting change.

Your journey may be joyful, boring, frightening, or all of the above. Every psychedelic experience offers possibilities for making positive and meaningful shifts from a place of inner authenticity, and I am here to support you in that process.

New_Meris_No2

Hello, I’m Meris Williams

Skilled support before and after your psychedelic journey

I’m a psychedelic preparation and integration coach, psychedelics researcher, and psychotherapist. I have a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, and more than 20 years of experience as a therapist. In my clinical career, I worked in both private practice and institutional settings.

I’ve also worked personally with psychedelic medicines for several years, so I know from experience that having skilled and caring support for journey preparation and integration can be immensely helpful, even essential at times.

As I entered this new phase of my life, my eldering decades, I saw a need for services that fill a couple of gaps in psychedelic support services – specifically, brief model preparation/integration coaching, and therapist consultation.

For psychedelics originating in Indigenous communities, I try to thoughtfully and respectfully bridge ancestral knowledges with Western perspectives. While ayahuasca is closest to my heart, it’s also very meaningful for me to support people who are coming home to themselves with any of these powerful medicines.

Why I Offer Psychedelic Coaching

Sowing the seeds of meaningful, lasting change

There’s a need for specialized support for people engaging with (or considering) psychedelic medicines. If you’ve been referred to me for psychedelic coaching, my services are woven into the sequence of support you’ll receive for your medicine journey.

It comes down to this: my wish is for your journey to be as safe and helpful as possible. Preparing for and integrating journey experiences with a trustworthy other can help you navigate your journey in a way that seeds positive and lasting change. In my own multi-year journey with ayahuasca and several other psychedelics, this type of support has been a fundamental part of my healing process.

I believe preparation and integration promote an ethical approach to psychedelics use by helping reduce risks and increase benefits. More generally, they support a mature stance on drug policy, education, and safety.

I also hold in my heart a vision for the future in which plant medicines and other psychedelics are carefully safeguarded, respected, and equitably integrated into systems of care, to foster personal wellness but also to expand beyond it, for the wellbeing of all.

How Psychedelic Coaching Works

Individualized support to empower your psychedelic journey

I believe each of us has an innate, wired-in drive for healing, self-discovery, and growth that psychedelics catalyze when the conditions are right. Preparation and integration work with trustworthy others can be one of those right conditions.

In my therapy practice I used Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), parts of which I weave into my work as a psychedelic coach. In a nutshell, AEDP is about psychological healing, self-discovery, and growth through embodiment and relationship. As a published social science researcher, I also draw on scientific studies in anthropology, psychology, and medicine, as well as knowledge that Indigenous and Indigenous-trained practitioners have shared with me.

With psychedelic coaching, we’ll get you ready for your journey and then afterwards help you to meaningfully apply the teachings and insights you received into your daily life.

What is Psychedelic Preparation Coaching?

Supporting you to get ready for your journey

Preparing for a medicine journey can be just as important – or more important – than processing the experience afterward. As a particularly wise collaborator of mine has pointed out, solid preparation can do a lot to optimize and ease post-journey integration. Preparation sessions are client-centred and tailored to your individual needs, whether you are new to psychedelics or a seasoned journeyer.

Depending on the type of psychedelic, it may be important to follow dietary, medication, or lifestyle restrictions. But preparation also means making time to reflect on what in your life, body, emotions, relationships, or spirit is calling for healing, discovery, or growth. Having a few practical tools to take with you into your journey can make a big difference. Collaborative intention-setting and developing or refining skills for navigating the powerful effects of psychedelics can be especially helpful.

If you’re a newcomer to medicine work, we’ll explore your reasons for wanting to experience a psychedelic journey, any past psychedelic experiences, your intentions for your journey, and any hopes and fears you may have. You can ask me questions about things like effects, dosing, and the support you’ll be receiving. We’ll also explore and practice skills to help you navigate your journey, and lay the foundation for post-journey integration.

If you’re already familiar with psychedelic medicine work, we’ll focus on your current needs – as examples, deepening your clarity, addressing vulnerabilities, revisiting or strengthening your journey navigation skills, or grounding your intentions.

Our research with ayahuasca ceremony leaders identified additional preparation practices – relevant to all psychedelics – believed to promote positive outcomes. These include:

  • Assessing your readiness

  • Approaching medicine work with honesty and respect

  • Identifying the personal issues you want to work on

  • Having a genuine desire to heal.

My goals for psychedelic preparation coaching are to support you in being as grounded and knowledgeable as possible going into your journey to help you maximize your safety and fruitful outcomes.

What is Psychedelic Integration Coaching?

Supporting you to glean the most from your journey

After your medicine journey, psychedelic coaching helps you maximize meaningful change by supporting you to process, understand, and apply into your everyday life the insights and teachings that emerged in your journey.

Our research with ayahuasca ceremony leaders described integration practices believed to promote positive outcomes. These are relevant to all psychedelics, and include:

  • Dedicating time to rest and reflect on what arose in your journey

  • Sharing your journey experiences with supportive others

  • Maintaining supportive practices (e.g., journaling, meditation, bodywork, etc.)

  • Using journey insights to seed positive changes in your life.

I’ll support you in all these areas, affirming your innate capacity for healing, self-discovery, and growth, and collaborating with you to set realistic goals for meaningful, real-world change.

I look forward to meeting with you!

Unlike my ayahuasca coaching services to which anyone can apply, I offer coaching for other psychedelic medicines exclusively to people referred personally to me.

I’ll already be in the loop if you have a referral.
